Our Wapuu Story…
It All Started With WordCamp OKC in 2016. Our OKC WordPress meetup group decided we needed to have a WordCamp, so after much thought and deliberation, we went for it!
I had been the WordPress meetup main organizer for about 5 years and then became the lead organizer for
Visiting WC Fayetteville 2017
the WordCamp OKC 2016. We got interested in wapuus as they were getting pretty popular. Our designer, Cara Bell, came up with this great t-shirt that featured an Oklahoma-branded Wapuu on it. Everyone loved it.
So, I was looking for some kind of thank you gift to give each person in our organizing team and I saw this article over on WP Tavern about a Wapuu crochet pattern that Siyana made and has available to anyone for free. I thought they were so cute and asked my crafty-talented daughter, Tracey, if she could make some for me.
She came through and I was able to give them out to the team. Mine sits above my computer right on my bookshelf. I take it to WordCamps and pin it to my backpack! I get lots of compliments.
A hand-crocheted wapuu in the colors pictured above. Each one takes about 8 hours to complete.
We have a limited number to sell at $40 each. Yours will be unique–even though they are all made from the same pattern, the knitting/crocheting process is individual for each one. Shipping is just $5 for anywhere in the continental U.S.
When you order, we’ll let you know an approximate date when yours will ship.
We will have about 7 made and when they are gone, there will be a wait until more can be made.
Here’s one where my Wheaten, Sophie 2.0, is really interested in these Wapuus!
