Slideshare is a free (and paid) service that allows anyone to set up an account and then upload presentations that can be viewed by anyone, or you can choose to keep them private. Slideshare was acquired by LinkedIn in 2012, so if you’re on LinkedIn, it makes sense to sign up for Slideshare and link the two accounts. You’ll do the linking in your Slideshare settings.
There’s a feature on Slideshare I wanted to share today and that is how to insert a YouTube video in your Slideshare presentation. With this ability you now have another way to get your videos in front of more people – especially those on LinkedIn. Perhaps you’ve made how-to or other types of videos on YouTube and now they are just on YouTube. Inserting your video gives you another place to share and show your videos.
First, you’ll need to upload your PowerPoint presentation to Slideshare. Then click on ‘edit’.
You’ll see the screen below – so log in to your YouTube account and click on the video you want to insert to bring up the url, then copy and paste the url into the box and select the position of the slide. That’s it – you’ve just added another form of media to your presentation and another way for your audience to consume your content!
Another great Slideshare feature is the ability to embed your presentation right in your website! So that’s what I’ve done. I clicked on the ’embed’ button and copied and pasted the code below – so take a look at how I’ve repurposed a video I did a month or so ago on the new features in PowerPoint 2013. So now people looking/searching for PowerPoint information on Slideshare can find my video presentation.
What other uses can you think of for this feature – leave me a comment please.
